The good old days for tourists who were used to being exempt from paying any taxes in Israel, are over, according to a statement released by the Israel Ministry of Finance.
Tourists to Israel will soon be paying taxes on hotel stays and services, transportation, car rental and shopping, after being exempt from paying such taxes for many years.
Finance Minister Yair Lapid intends to cancel the VAT exemption for tourists, a move projected to raise 300 million to 500 million shekels for the state every year.

The Jewish community in Texas is under fear after receiving a bomb threat, according to a statement released by Texas police.
The Houston Jewish learning center shut down on Thursday after receiving a bomb threat, officials said.
Congregation Beth Israel, a sector of the Miriam Browning Jewish Learning Center, notified parents of the threat in an email sent on Wednesday.

Passing motorists Kraai McClure and Scott Beautler, stopped to investigate the damaged trees when they found two young injured girls huddling together while their mother’s body was in the car.
26-year-old Jessica Rath of Astoria, Oregon, was on the phone with her husband before she hit the tree.
The girls were taken to a hospital in Astoria, where their father joined them. The 2-year-old was then taken by helicopter to a hospital in Portland, Oregon, where she is expected to make a full recovery.
