"A Game Of Thrones" is the first book in the "Song of Ice and Fire" series and is my first foray into George R.R. Martin's world. Before I was introduced to his work, I was generally a Robert Jordan fan. Upon checking out A Game of Thrones, I understood that I was missing out on a substantial portion of the high fantasy book category.
From beginning to end, I was not sure whether or not I actually liked novel. The plot was intriguing enough. If it's worth anything, I spent a few sleep-deprived evenings reading A Game of Thrones! Now that I reflect, I would say that the intricacy of the characters and the plot as a whole is what made me so uncertain. Other fantasy books typically specify the line between good people and evil. We have the excellent characters on one side and the wicked powers on the various other. George R.R. Martin handles to mirror truth by highlighting the moral grey locations. Characters are not boxed into single moral groups. There is no clear protagonist. A "excellent" character is not absolutely likeable. An "wicked" character can seem to be a nice person on the within. Good and bad is so maddeningly linked you can't see a representation however help of the genuine world.
This book is not for the faint of heart. If you are trying to find light reading, without violence and sex, you may not desire to review A Game of Thrones. When I thought Martin was overdoing it a bit, there were times. I chose I would simply chalk it approximately artistic freedom. But, for numerous readers, this realistic imitation of what life in the middle ages, which appears to be the time period for this collection even though it occurs in the fictional land of Westeros, belongs to the book collection' appeal.
One discouraging element of the book is that as the story proceeds, it seems that the "good" guys are getting eliminated off one by one. If that isn't enough to make you depressed I have no idea exactly what is. Obviously this is just the first book in a yet uncompleted collection -the tale is yet to unfold.
The story is gripping. It leaves you yearning more. One benefit about finding this collection at this late date is that you won't have to wait for the next few books to be composed. A Feast for Crows, the 4th and most current book of the series, has been out because in 2012. Once you begin with A Game of Thrones, you might want to rate yourself so as not to need to wait too long for the 5th book. At 1000 pages each, the earlier volumes in the collection will keep you reviewing for quite a while. game of thrones houses
